The search king, Google, is pushing hard for open cell phone networks in US. With the open cell phone network pitch getting louder and louder day after day, hard times seem to be ahead for the current technology market players. The current breed of mobile resellers would then be replaced by a harder breed of technologists and entrepreneurs.
With Google entering into the open network cell business the focus would shift to mass marketing and inexpensive cell phones. US companies like Apple and Helio who have traditionally focused on high end consumers might find it a difficult road ahead.
With more pressure getting created, the market will open up to new entrants by lowering the entry barriers. All this would result in one thing for the customer – more competition, better servicing and excellent competitive prices.
A new breed of MVNOs – Mobile Virtual Network Operators might come up which generate revenue from ads rather than subscription.
